A Bit About Me

Bernell Edward King was born on August 12, 1951, in Galveston, Texas, to George Edward King and Marguerite Johnson Nelson. He was raised by his grandmother, Victoria King Anderson, and his aunt, Dorothy Lee King, in Egypt, Texas. He attended Hungerford schools and graduated from Hungerford High School in 1971.

In 1977, Bernell enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably for more than 14 years as a Construction Equipment Repairer and Drill Sergeant. 

After being stationed in Germany, he returned to the United States and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he continued to serve with distinction, earning numerous awards and commendations. He later volunteered for early transition from military service and received an Honorable Discharge in 1991.

Following his military service, Bernell worked as a truck driver for Sysco Foods before joining the United States Postal Service in 2000. He remained with USPS until his retirement in Dec 2025.

Bernell was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite Johnson Nelson; his father, George Edward King; and his brother, Dwight "Butch" Linscomb.

Bernell leaves to cherish his memories to his children, Marlon and Monica Daniels, (Theola Daniels ) and Jasmin King (Agnes G. King), his sisters, Linda Ford, Debra Earl, and Margaret Spain; his brothers, Darrell King and George Anthony King; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Bernell will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to his family, his strong work ethics, and his ability to persevere through life's challenges with dignity and grace. His legacy lives on through the generations he helped shape and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
